Signature Process
Not your average paintbrush
The card is part of the story.
Ellen uses the edge of a credit card as a painting tool—dragging, scraping, layering and blending paint across the surface to create texture a traditional brush simply cannot. The footage beside this is the real thing: card, paint, canvas, and the marks it leaves behind.
The technique fits the work itself: taking something ordinary, seeing it differently, and turning it into part of the image.
An everyday object. An unexpected mark. A process that leaves evidence of how the piece was made.

Made to notice things differently.
Growing up in West Virginia, Ellen found some of her earliest lessons in color and expression in the Appalachian Mountains. Her work has never stayed neatly inside one medium—or on one kind of surface. Acrylic, oil, charcoal, markers, pastels, printed imagery and whatever else helps tell the story are all fair game.
That instinct to experiment is the thread running through LN Painted This: familiar references rearranged into something personal, layered and new.
