Every commission starts somewhere different — a sports moment, a friendship, a hometown reference, a story that only makes sense to the person asking for it. Use these as proof that your idea does not need to arrive fully formed.

too.
Painting is only one way Ellen notices the world. Her photography follows the same instinct: finding character in people, atmosphere in a room, and beauty in the details most of us pass by.
She paints with a credit card.
Seriously. Ellen uses the edge of a credit card as a painting tool — dragging, scraping, layering and blending paint across the surface to create texture a traditional brush simply can’t.
The technique fits the work itself: taking something ordinary, seeing it differently, and turning it into part of the story. Acrylic, oil, charcoal, markers, pastels, printed imagery and whatever else gets the idea where it needs to go are all fair game.
Made to notice things differently.
Growing up in West Virginia, Ellen found some of her earliest lessons in color and expression in the Appalachian Mountains. Art has never stayed neatly inside one medium — or on one kind of surface. That instinct to experiment is the thread running through LN Painted This: familiar references rearranged into something personal, layered and new.
